Each treatment consisted of two 45-ft rows bordered on each side by 2 untreated rows and planted in a randomized complete block design with 15-ft- roadways between blocks. The test was planted on Jun 16 using a Stan-Hay 2-row precision seeder. The seeding rate was 15 seeds/ft, but was thinned to ca 1/ft on Jul 20. Spray applications were made using a PTO-driven tractor mounted 2-row sprayer delivering 33.7 gallons H2O/A on a 36-inch row basis through 3 flat fan nozzles (110015)/row. The plot was sprayed 4 times between Aug 2 and Aug 30. Adult leafnoppers were counted at 2 and 6 days after spraying, using a hand sweep net (50 sweeps/treatment).
