Phylloxera Control on Louisiana Pecans, 1978

Two similar but independent experiments were conducted to control pecan phylloxer on pecans at Whitehall and Bossier City, Louisiana. At Whitehall, the experimental design was a completely randomized design with four single-tree replications per treatment. The trees were the ‘Caspiana’ cultivar. Applications were made with a John Bean 957 sprayer with each tree receiving ca. 30 gal of spray. The Superior 70 Oil was applied on Mar 10 while all other treatments were applied Apr 5. Evaluation occurred on May 11 by counting the number of terminals infested and the numbers of phylloxera galls present on 100 randomly selected terminals per tree. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and the results are shown below:
