Three synthetic pyrethroids were applied as dilute air-blast sprays to plots of mixed Bartlett and d’Anjou pear for control of overwintered pear psylla adults. Plots were about one-half acre in size. In some plots superior type oil was added to the spray while in others the insecticide was diluted with water only. All sprays were applied at 400 gal/acre. Treatments were evaluated for adult kill by a pre- and several posttreatment counts using the beating tray technique (25 limb taps at random from each plot on each counting date), and for nymphs by a count from 5 spurs at or shortly after bloom stage.
