Three synthetic pyrethroids were applied by helicopter to plots of mixed Bartlett and d’Anjou pear for control of overwintered pear psylla adults. Plots were about 3 acres in size. The helicopter was equipped with standard spray gear except that 3 Beecomist® spray heads with 80u perforated metal sleeves were used in place of conventional nozzles. Some treatments were applied using superior type oil as a diluent at3gal/acre, others with water as a diluent at5gal/acre. Treatments were evaluated for adult kill by a pre- and several posttreatment counts using the beating tray technique (25 tray samples at random from each plot on each counting date).
