‘Red Pontiac’ potatoes were planted June 8, 1977, at the Red River Valley Potato Growers Research Farm. Soil type was Bearden silty clay. Plots were a single row, 40 ft long, spaced 38 inches apart, and randomized in complete blocks with 3 replications. Systemic insecticides were applied in-furrow as split-band treatments at planting. Foliar insecticide treatments were applied July 12 and August 9 using a 3-gallon, hand-operated, compressed-air sprayer delivering 100 gal water/acre at ca. 40 psi. Potato leafhopper nymphs and green peach aphid apferae were counted from 35 leaves per plot. The field was harvested October 28.
