Experimental sprays were applied to run-off to single-tree plots in a randomized block design with 2 replicates of York Imperial and 2 replicates of Golden Delicious. Treated single-trees were separated by others not sprayed with insecticides. Experimental sprays were applied with a John Bean sprayer, 35 gpm pump, equipped with a spray mast carrying 7 spray guns arranged arranged to wet the uniformly trimmed trees. Spray dates for the test insecticides were: May 16, 31, June 14, 28, July 13, 27, Aug 10 and 24. During the spray of May 31, the experimental materials were mistakenly placed in a lower gallonage of water, increasing their concentration by 50%. On Aug. 2, 43 g Plictran 50W/100 gallons was applied to run-off on all replicates treated with the Ambush compounds. During May, general sprays involving Cyprex, Polyram, sulfur, and calcium chloride were applied with an airblast sprayer at 50 gallons of water/acre to the whole experimental block.
