Experimental sprays were applied to run-off to single tree plots in a randomized block design with 4 replicates, 1 each of Stayman, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Jonathan apple trees. Sprays were applied with a single hand gun from a truck-mounted Myers hydraulic sprayer at 450 psi. All plots except the check were treated on May 9, and 24, and June 10, and 21 and July 7, and 21, plus August 15. Approximately 4.5 gallons of spray were applied per replicate tree. In addition, each plot except the untreated check received Captan 50W at 2 lb/100 gal at each treatment date. Apple aphid ratings were made by counting the number of infested terminals per tree on July 12. A minimum of 1 bushel of fruit per tree was randomly harvested and rated on September 21. (Red Delicious had no fruit because of a spring freeze).
