Foliar Insect Control in Lupin, 1991

The trial was planted at the Staples Irrigation Station on 26 Apr using a 4 row John Deere Maximerge planter. Plots were 4 rows × 7.6 m in length, arranged in a randomized complete block design, replicated 4 times. Seed was inoculated before planting. The soil applications of Furadan 4 F to 4 plots were made using 2 liters of water as a carrier and placed in a 10 cm band over the newly planted row. The field was lightly irrigated to insure uniform and rapid germination. Foliar insecticides were broadcast applied in 2 liters water total/4 plots (.0023 ha) on 7 and 25 Jun. Stand counts, seedcorn maggot injury and yields were recorded. Shortly after 1 Jun a severe disease (CoUetotricum sp., Phoma sp, and Phtftoketa sp) outbreak occurred. Three applications of systemic fungicide were applied to the entire experiment in an attempt to check the epidemic.
