On 14 May 1990, 'Express' cabbage transplants were planted into sandy loam soil at the Wes Watkins AREC, Lane, Okla. Test plots were 20 ft long, single-row with 3 ft between rows. Plants were spaced 12 inches apart with one unplanted row between planted rows. A randomized complete block design was used with three replications. Fertilizer was applied at recommended levels before planting and through a trickle irrigation system. The initial insecticide treatment was applied on 20 Jun using a CO2-powered backpack sprayer which delivered 23 gal/acre. Ten randomly selected plants/plot were sampled for CL and DBM one d before treatment, 2 DAT, 7 DAT and 13 DAT. A second insecticide application was made on 9 Jul with samples taken as before at 3 DAT and 7 DAT.
