The turf area was a red fescue home lawn located near Potomac, Montgomery County, Md. At the time of precounts and treatment on 24 Aug damage to the lawn was severe. The chinch bugs averaged 25 adults and nymphs/sq ft. Test plots were 10 × 10 ft replicated 3 times and arranged in a randomized complete block design. Granular treatments were applied by hand-held shaker can, and all liquid treatments were applied by sprinkling can. All treatments wereapplied in 2 directions across each plot. All treatments were watered into the thatch with at least 0.25 inches of water. Chinch bugs were sampled with a metal cylinder floatation method on 26 and 30 Aug.
