Two small field studies were established on rangeland near Wendell, Idaho. Insecticides were applied to 24 ft × 24 ft plots. Each treatment was replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. Applications were made with a CO2 pressurized backpack sprayer using four 8004 nozzles on a 5 ft boom and 50 gal finished spray per acre. Bait applications were applied with a hand-held lawn fertilizer spreader. Grasshopper nymphs were 30, 40, and 30% for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th instars, respectively, on 29 May, when the insecticides were applied for the first study. Life stages were 10, 40, and 50% for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th instars, respectively, on 12 Jun, when the treatments were applied for the second study. Grasshoppers were counted in a 3 ft × 20 ft strip (6.7 yd2) in each plot on each counting date.
