Onions were seeded 16 Apr on 21 inch beds with a tractor-mounted air planter. Plots were single rows, 10 ft long replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design with an untreated row separating treatments. Because the thrips population was high before the experiment began, all plots were treated once on 12 Jun with Penncap-M and Guthion 2F at 0.5 and 0.75 lb (AI)/acre, respectively. Experimental foliar treatments were applied 10 and 21 Jul using a C02 pressurized sprayer delivering ca. 65 gal water/acre at 35 psi. Thrips were counted 11, 14, 21, 22 and 25 Jul. No phytotoxicity was noted in any of the treatments.
