The diploid species that donated the A and D genomes to the polyploid wheats have been recognized for some time. New evidence indicates that Triticum speltoides cannot be the B genome donor to T. turgidum or T. aestivum. T. speltoides is probably homologous to the G genome of T. timopheevii. The donor of the B genome to T. turgidum and T. aestivum is currently unrecognized.
