An object-oriented approach for constructing an IC failure analysis system environment named MultiICFA is described. The MultiICFA enables the failure analyst to manage IC analysis information, which consists of video, graphical plot, film, image, and text description, through a user interface. In this paper, the characteristics of failure analysis in an IC device are described and a process of failure analysis, which is currently used by an IC manufacturer, is given. The architecture of the MultiICFA is outlined, which focuses on modelling and management of data. An object-oriented approach to design is adopted in the implementation of the system
