This short communication provides an overview of the articles contained in the AoB PLANTS Special Issue, Evolutionary dynamics of tree invasions. The articles cover a wide range of evolutionary mechanisms in tree genomes, epigenomes, and their second genomes, and enhance our understanding and the conceptualization of the complex evolutionary drivers of tree invasions. Additionally, this AoB PLANTS Special Issue identifies directions for further research in the face of the increasing impact of invasive trees worldwide, and calls for interdisciplinary research collaborations.
