Spinach was transplanted on 4 Sep at Van Kesteren Farms near Tasley, VA. Each plot consisted of six 20-ft rows in a 5 ft wide bed, with 3-ft spacing between beds. The experiment had 10 treatments plus a check arranged in a RCBD and replicated four times. On 2 Dec, pre-treatment samples of aphids in each replicate indicated a mean of 42.8 gpa/10 leaves. A single application of each treatment was made on 2 Dec using a propane-pressurized sprayer that delivered 35 gpa of spray at 40 psi through a boom equipped with three flat fan nozzles (T Jet 8003). To evaluate efficacy, the total number of live aphids was counted on 10 randomly picked leaves/plot on 6, 10, and 16 Dec. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and means separated by LSD at P < 0.05. The 16 Dec data were re-analyzed without the check, which was significantly different than all other treatments at P < 0.05.
