Onions were seeded at the Brink Farm near Grant, Michigan on 6 May and at the Krummery Farm near Stockbridge, Michigan on 11 May, in single rows using a vee-belt seeder with a 1 inch wide shoe, 12 seeds per foot of row. At each site, plots were replicated five times in a randomized complete block arrangement. Onion seeds coated with ProGro fungicide from four seed-coating companies, with or without Trigard in the coating (50 g per kg of seed), were used in the trials. Cultivars and coating techniques were unknown to us. Lorsban 15 G (3.7 oz/1000 row ft) and Exp6055A (fipronil) 1.5 G (0.025 lbs Al/acre, 0.3 g/1000 row ft) were applied in furrow at planting with seed treatment A seeds at Grant and seed treatment B seeds at Stockbridge. Healthy and damaged plants were counted weekly, 13 Jun to 7 Jul. Plots were harvested 9 Aug.
