Adipose tissue in overweight patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a source of proinflammatory mediators, which could contribute to protein-energy wasting (PEW), cardiovascular disease, and increased mortality. Overweight in ESRD patients, however, is reported to be associated with better survival.
