We give a new estimate on the maximal Bochner-Riesz operator in the plane, for p > 2 p>2 ; as a corollary we obtain an almost everywhere convergence result for certain Bochner-Riesz means. This work was inspired by discussions with Michael Christ and Chris Sogge.
