Answering a question of Arhangel’skii, we show—under GCH—that for most cardinals m \mathfrak {m} there exists an R \mathscr {R} -compact space X X such that weight ⁡ X = m \operatorname {weight} X = \mathfrak {m} but X X does not embed in a closed fashion into the product of m \mathfrak {m} copies of R \mathscr {R} .
