short-course zidovudine prophylaxis); that larger study also found no significant difference in survival between infants with subtype A infection and those with subtype D infection [6]. Therefore, although other studies have shown reduced survival among adults with subtype D infection, we have not observed an association between subtype D infection and reduced survival among infants. Further studies are needed to evaluate the relationships between HIV subtype and clinical outcome in HIV-infected infants.
