We present an exact three-dimensional wave solution to the shearing sheetequations of motion. The existence of this solution argues against transientamplification as a route to turbulence in unmagnetized disks. Moreover, becausethe solution covers an extensive dynamical range in wavenumber space, it is anexcellent test of the dissipative properties of numerical codes.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figures.
