We use mock Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect (SZE) maps to investigate how well thePlanck mission might find and characterize clusters of galaxies. We discussdifferent combinations of frequency maps and different methods for identifyingcluster candidates. The resulting catalogues are not complete even forrelatively high mass thresholds, but the full sky nature of the mission ensuresa large sample of massive, high-z clusters which will be ideal for manystudies. We make a preliminary attempt to identify the X-ray, optical and weaklensing properties of the Planck sample.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures. Minor changes to match version accepted by Ap
