The global star formation rate (SFR) density is estimated from the starformation histories (SFHs) of Local Group galaxies. This is found to be broadlyconsistent with estimates of the global SFH from existing redshift surveys fortwo favoured cosmologies. It also provides additional evidence for a relativelyconstant global SFR density at high redshift (z>1).Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, accepted by ApJ Letter
