The definition of information consulting presents the same difficulties as the definition of information professional. This article analyses the supply and demand of consulting services in Spain. The demand is focused in four main areas: internal document management, management of external information sources, architecture of internet/intranet content and strategies for information and knowledge management. The supply is divided into four types of consulting: specialised and independent consulting, general consulting, consulting linked to IT solutions and consulting linked to the delivery of services. The article concludes by presenting the professional profile of the information consultant.
