The author dissected fresh cadaver heads to precisely define the surgical anatomy of the masseteric fascia, the aponeurosis of the masseter muscle, and the periosteum of the malar bone and zygomatic arch. He discovered a dense, unyielding band that is distinct from and covers the aponeurosis of the masseter muscle, which he named the conjoined masseteric fascia. (Aesthetic Surg J 2001;21:461-464.).
