To improve the performance of mixed-refrigerants containing hexafluoroethane as a component, saturated flow boiling heat transfer characteristics in a smooth horizontal tube of hexafluoroethane were measured. The experiments were carried out at various pressures ranging from 0.2 to 0.6 MPa, heat fluxes ranging from 5 to 60 kW/m2, and mass fluxes ranging from 350 to 1100 kg/m2-s. The influences of different experimental parameters on the flow boiling heat transfer coefficient were discussed. In comparison with experimental data and five well known correlations, Gungor and Winterton correlation shows a good agreement.
