We present an ensemble of experimental studies and calculations about the lifetimes and predissociations in the B state of the Cl2 molecule. The radiative lifetime is shown to be very long(τv=12 ≃1.2 ms), in accordance with the previously determined and confirmed value of the B-X transition dipole moment. Our measurements of lifetimes for (J = 0, v≥13) show the existence of a hyperfine predissociation of these states. Finally a simple model of the first Ω= 1u states of Cl2 is given which explains, within a factor of 2, the gyroscopic predissociation of the B 3ΠO+u state by the A 3Π1u and 1Π1 u states
