We have mapped the 13 CO (1–0) line in a region of sky towards the star Cyg OB2 No. 12. The observations rule out the possibility that the molecular material along the line of sight is distributed over a long path of very dilute gas. Instead, we present unambiguous evidence of well‐defined kinematical structures, which might be assembled to form a cloud complex. The chemistry that leads to H + 3 appears decoupled from that responsible for the production of heavier species.
