The following abstracts were presented to the 90th meeting of the Surgical Research Society. The meeting was organized by and held at the Royal Free Hospital in London on 2–3 December 1999. One hundred and twenty‐four abstracts were presented during the scientific sessions. The Patey prize was awarded to Mr K. C. Chan for a paper entitled ‘Epidermal growth factor receptor inhibition decreases epithelial proliferation in ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast, whereas c‐ erbB2 blocking does not’. © 2000 British Journal of Surgery Society Ltd
