In the course of taxonomic research of the Polygonaceae for the Flora Zambesiaca and Conspectus Florae Angolensis projects, all the species of the genus Oxygonum Burch. ex Campd. in tropical Africa were studied. This resulted in the description of two new species: Oxygonum thulinianum and O. hastatum from Somalia. These species belong to the Oxygonum stuhlmannii–atriplicifolium complex, a group of species characterized by fruits with three prickles or teeth, and leaves always or sometimes sagittate to hastate. © 2003 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2003, 142 , 341–345.
