The Animal Science Group: Supporting Excellence in the Science Base

None of us likes it, most of us accept it, but some of us have to use animals in our research. Those who do require animals to answer scientific questions or to develop new treatments for animal and human disease know only too well of the problems: the continuous personal and national concern about animal welfare, the high cost and complexity in designing and analysing whole-animal experiments. This must make it one of the most difficult subjects with which we have to deal. These problems are compounded by concerns about public opinion, the vociferous and sometimes violent actions of a small group of extremists who oppose animal experiments, and a seemingly ever increasing burden of regulations, requirements, paperwork and delays.
