In a new feature in which we profile members of the Society, we ask questions of Tom OwenHughes (Dundee), who has been awarded the Colworth Medal in 2002 for his work on chromatin remodelling. The Award and lecture are to be presented at the 677th Meeting in Cardiff, 16–18 July 2002 with the lecture titled ‘Pathways for remodelling chromatin’. Tom’s work has redirected the focus of attention in the chromatin field. He has paved the way for a new understanding of how the organization of DNA in higher eukaryotic cells in vivo affects the control of gene expression.
