These results were obtained in response to a circular letter received from the Director of the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Carnegie Institution of Washington requesting cooperation in magnetic and allied observations at the time of the solar eclipse of October 10, 1912. The magnetic observers in charge of the observatories were directed to exercise especial care to have the magnetographs in good working order on October 10, and for several days before and after that date.
