The vapor pressures of several amino acids were determined by the Knudsen cell effusion method. The standard thermodynamic quantities for the heat of sublimation, the entropy of sublimation, and the free energy of sublimation are calculated. The sensitivity of the mass spectrometer is calculated for an amino acid from its vapor pressure, its ionization cross section, and its intensity of the (P--COOH)/sup +/ ion currents relative to the total ion intensity.
