Nitridation of CoWO 4 /CdS nanocomposite results in the formation of metal nitrides on the surface of CdS. The high electrical conductivity, appropriate binding energy for hydrogen, and Pt-like properties of the surface nitrides promote the H 2 evolution performance. Therefore, the optimal performance of nitrided CoWO 4 /CdS (CoWO 4 /CdS-N, 3650 μmol·h -1 ·g -1 ) is higher than that of Pt/CdS (2948 μmol·h -1 ·g -1 ).
