In this paper, we discussed a shopping activity from the viewpoint of preventing dementia. The activity is one of the IADL(Instrumental Activities of Daily Living) activities and it is more natural, essential and intellectual than other IADL activities. In the related works, the activity has been regarded as the activity which stimulates human cognitive functions and several training methods including therapy or rehabilitation have been proposed. We conducted the observation of shopping activity and analyzed the intellectual aspect of the activity. In particular, we focused on the words about “planning” and “logicality” because they often appeared in the protocol of participants who often go shopping by themselves and are familiar with shopping activities.
