This contribution aims to identify those Slovak public and private-sector research organisations with potential to engage in EU-funded projects. The international publicly accessible CORDIS database, the global citation database Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) and the national database on research information SK CRIS and the Slovak university employees’ registry at PortalVS were explored to evaluate this potential. Success in various domestic and international research grant schemes in combination with some bibliometric indicators could represent a solid base for achieving this goal. Some problems encountered in data processing were addressed and some solutions were proposed to improve data quality.
