Internet of Things (IoT) has become an emerging trend in the information and engineering industries, which is inevitable to impact our lives in various ways. The advancement of IoT as an intelligent system is facing a number of challenges such as security and privacy. This paper aims to establish a starting point towards addressing this challenge by suggesting the implementation of data provenance in IoT. However, the complexity of IoT brings a number of challenges for utilizing provenance data. This paper discusses seven main challenges that influence data provenance implementation in IoT systems. The paper is expected to contribute to the literature that attempts to addresses the complex and multidimensional challenge of security and privacy in IoT.
