Highlights • Mucormycosis is an opportunistic fungal infection caused by fungi of the order Mucorales.• Early diagnosis of mucormycosis is key to the improvement of patients’ survival.• LAmB is the treatment of choice, combined with aggressive surgical debridement.• Posaconazole, Isavuconazole and hyperbaric oxygen are examples of available salvage therapies.
