A Swinhoe’s Storm-petrel ( Hydrobates monorhis ) captured in French Guiana in May 2017 is the first documented record for the South Atlantic Ocean and South America. The circumstances of the capture are presented and the process of identification is summarized. The origin of this bird and the recently discovered small population in the North Atlantic are discussed.
