ALTHOUGH a number of papers reportin& techniques for this purpose have been published (e.g. SHEATZ, 1961, MILLER et a/., 1961, VALENSttlN et a/., 1961 , SUTTON, 1962) there still appears to be a need for detailed descriptions of further developments, judging from my own experience and from requests for such information. Therefore techniques are described which have been used successfully for brain stimulation of gulls (Larus sp.) and which from a few experiments are also known to be suitable for chickens (Gallus sp.). They should, however, be applicable to a wide range of birds and small mammals.
