First the fundamentals of neurologically motivated computing are briefly discussed. This is followed by presenting two of the many possible applications in structural mechanics. Both of these are oriented towards structural optimization. In the first mode a neural net model of the structural response is created and then attached to any conventional optimization algorithm. In the second mode a neural net model of an experienced designer is created knowledgeable within a narrow class of structural concepts.
