Cyclobutadienyl dications as intermediates in the rapid degenerate rearrangements of 4‐halo‐1,2,3,4‐tetrasubstituted cyclobutenyl cations

Based on 13 C NMR chemical shifts at variable temperatures it is suggested that cyclobutadienyl dications form essential intermediates in the rapid equilibration of 4‐halo‐1,2,3,4‐tetrasubstituted cyclobutenyl cations.
