The Annual Meeting of the Society of Academic and Research Surgeons was held at the University of Bristol on 7th and 8th January 2009 under the Presidency of Professor Kevin Bernand. The Patey Prize was awarded to Adam T. Stearns of the Department of Surgery, Brigham & Womens Hospital & Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA; for his presentation on “HOW DOES THE GUT KNOW IT IS LUNCH TIME?
