The annual meeting of the Swiss Society of Surgery (Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Chirurgie, SGC) was held in Davos, Switzerland, June 23–26 2004. The annual prize of the Society for the best paper went to D. Dindo et al. for the article ‘Obesity in general elective surgery’ in The Lancet , 2003. The prize from the British Journal of Surgery for the best paper from a Swiss group published in this journal went to Bosch et al. for the article ‘Perioperative detection of disseminated tumour cells is an independent prognostic factor in patients with colorectal cancer’.
