Key Points Question What is the risk of benign breast diseases (BBDs) and how are they associated with age, hormonal breast cancer risk factors, and family history of breast cancer? Findings In this cohort study of 61 617 women in Sweden, incidence rates for distinct BBD subtypes in individuals 25 to 69 years of age were estimated. The study found that the risk of the most common BBDs by hormonal factors was influenced by age and that family history of breast cancer was associated with the risk of proliferative and nonproliferative BBDs. Meaning These results indicate that age and hormonal factors influence the risk of BBDs and that a better understanding of BBDs is important to improve our understanding of breast diseases as a whole.
