Key Points Question Is the use of electronic nicotine delivery systems associated with cigarette smoking relapse among former smokers? Findings In a nationally representative, longitudinal cohort study in the US, use of electronic nicotine delivery systems was found to be associated with significant increases in cigarette smoking relapse for both recent former cigarette smokers (≤1 year) and long-term former cigarette smokers (>1 year). Meaning In this study, risk of cigarette smoking relapse among former cigarette smokers was higher among those who used electronic nicotine delivery systems or other tobacco products compared with those who did not.
