Key Points Question Is Medicaid expansion associated with changes in mortality for patients with cancer? Findings In this cross-sectional study of 523 802 patients with newly diagnosed breast, colorectal, or lung cancer, Medicaid expansion was associated with decreased mortality in expansion states compared with control nonexpansion states. This mortality improvement appeared to be mediated by earlier stage of cancer at diagnosis. Meaning In this study, Medicaid expansion was associated with a decreased hazard of mortality among patients with newly diagnosed breast, colorectal, and lung cancer.
