Mass Generation in Structural Algebraic Quantum Field Theory: An alternative to the Higgs mechanism

Within the recently proposed structure-inclusive algebraic formulation ofquantum field theory, we show that a massless particle can acquire mass byspecial nonlinear coupling to a universal massless scalar field; establishingan alternative to the Higgs mechanism in the standard model of particlephysics. We end with a conjecture concerning dark energy and dark matter.
